Tesla has recalled over 46,000 Cybertrucks in the US due to concerns over a trim piece potentially detaching, marking the model’s eighth and largest recall to date. Analysts suggest this affects nearly all Cybertrucks produced in 2024 and 2025.
The recall comes at a challenging time for Tesla, as the company faces declining sales and growing criticism directed at both the firm and its CEO, Elon Musk. Tesla has not responded to requests for comment.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, US Attorney General Pam Bondi charged three individuals with “domestic terrorism” for allegedly setting fire to Tesla vehicles and charging stations.
#1Tesla Faces Stock Slump and Ongoing Cybertruck Recalls
Tesla's stock has fallen roughly 40% since January, wiping out the gains it saw after the 2024 US election.
While Tesla does not disclose Cybertruck sales figures, car tech firm Cox Automotive estimates that around 39,000 units were sold in the US last year.
Previous Cybertruck recalls have addressed issues such as malfunctioning windshield wipers, stuck accelerator pedals, potential power loss to the wheels, and other defects.
According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla began investigating the latest issue—concerning a component officially known as the cant rail—in January.
#2Tesla Addresses Cybertruck Trim Defect Amid Safety Concerns
According to the recall notice, the cant rail—a stainless-steel exterior trim panel—can delaminate and detach from the vehicle, posing a potential road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
Tesla informed the NHTSA that it had received approximately 150 driver complaints regarding the issue but was not aware of any accidents resulting from it.
The defect is covered under warranty for new owners, and Tesla will replace the affected part free of charge.
