YouTube Unveils Personalized ‘Recap’ Feature, Launching Its Own Version of Spotify Wrapped

SAN BRUNO, CA — YouTube is rolling out its new Recap feature, a personalized retrospective that allows users to quickly review their most notable video consumption habits from the past year. The feature officially launched for US users today, with a global rollout expected to be completed this week.

The move is highly strategic, aiming to capitalize on the massive social media engagement generated by Spotify Wrapped each holiday season. The YouTube version is tailored for video consumption, providing viewers with personalized statistics such as:

  • Unique Hook: The Recap will assign users a “personality type” (such as Adventurer, Skill Builder, or Creative Spirit) based on their viewing data, offering a shareable social asset comparable to Spotify’s established listening personality types.
  • Access: The feature is accessible on both mobile devices and desktop. Users can find it via a dedicated button on the YouTube homepage or under the “You” tab in the user menu.

Availability and Music Integration

While some stats related to music listening and watching will be included in the main Recap experience, YouTube has clarified that it is not replacing the existing YouTube Music Recap. Users of the dedicated YouTube Music app will still receive a separate, comprehensive annual review of their top artists, songs, genres, and podcasts within that app, ensuring both video and music consumption habits are fully summarized.
